Congress has announcedthat it will ally with the DMK against the upcoming local council elections in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Elections will be held on March 6 in all gram panchayats – except Netaji Nagar and Hut Bay, panchayat samitis, zilla parishad and Port Blair City Council. DMK will run for Blair City Council in districts 1, 6, 9, 15 and 21 of the port under a bipartisan seat-sharing arrangement.
The two parties also signed an agreement on Monday in the presence of Territorial Assembly Committee Chairman Rangalal Halder and DMK state organizer AL Kulandai.
“In the last Lok Sabha elections, we worked together and won. The alliance with the DMK will ensure victory in the upcoming elections,” Halder said.
Congress has also formed an alliance with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in response to the upcoming elections.
The TDP will be played in Port Blair City Council Districts 2, 5 and 16, according to the arrangement.
The last date to submit nominations is February 11, reviews will take place on February 12, and the last date to withdraw nominations is February 14.
The votes will be counted on March 8.
