After weeks of waiting and watching, the center and the state government have made it clear that the threat of the fourth wave of Covid-19 in the country is real, and the government has begun to take preventive measures. On Friday, the central government stated that the world is witnessing the fourth wave of coronavirus and asked the public not to relax their vigilance and take all possible measures to curb the spread of the disease. The government also warned that the Omicron variant has a higher transmission rate in households than the previous variant.
The government shared a set of key data related to the recent Omicron case found in the country. The Ministry of Health stated that 90% of Omicron infections are in fully vaccinated people, so relying on vaccines alone will not help curb the new wave.
With the growing threat of the third wave of the coronavirus, the state governments of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have imposed curfews to curb the spread of the virus. The two state governments also limit the number of guests allowed for social and public gatherings to 200 people. Earlier, the Delhi government banned all Christmas and New Year celebrations, fearing that the celebrations might set off a new wave of coronavirus in the city.
