Covid-19: India logs 1,61,386 new cases in last 24 hours, deaths surge by 1,733

India continued its downward trend with 1,61,386 new Covid-19 cases recorded in the past 24 hours, data from the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday morning showed. However, the Covid-19 death toll today rose to 1,733, including a backlog of 638 deaths from Kerala. The death toll soared to 4,97,975.

Active cases fell to 1,21,456 in the past day. The number of active cases in the country is currently at 3.90%.

Meanwhile, the daily positivity rate fell to 9.36% in 24 hours from 11.69% the day before, health ministry data showed.

India’s recovery rate soared to 94.60%, with 2,81,109 recoveries recorded in a single day.

As of February 1, more than 732 million tests have been conducted, of which 17,42,793 were conducted on February 1.

India’s cumulative Covid-19 vaccination coverage is close to 1.7 billion, including more than 5.7 million doses on Tuesday.

A total of 4,97,650 booster doses were administered in the past 34 hours, while more than 1.3 million children aged 15-18 received at least one dose of the vaccine.
