India recorded 44,877 new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in the past 24 hours, with the daily positivity rate edged down to 3.17%, the Joint Health Ministry’s announcement on Sunday morning showed. In one day, 684 people died from the virus, bringing the death toll to 5,08,665.
The country’s cumulative total of infections now stands at 42,631,421, while the number of active cases currently stands at 5,37,045. Active cases currently account for 1.26% of the total number of cases.
The number of positive cases recorded today is 45,486 more new infections than yesterday, an 11% decrease. Health ministry figures show the weekly positivity rate is 4.46 per cent.
As many as 1,17,591 people have been discharged in the past 24 hours, raising the number of recoveries to 4,15,85,711. The recovery rate is now 97.55%.
India’s daily Covid-19 total remained below the 50,000 mark for the second day in a row after a gap of more than 40 days.
Health ministry figures further show that a total of 750 million tests have been carried out so far, including 14,15,279 in the past 24 hours.
In the past day, a total of 4,916,801 doses of vaccines have been administered nationwide. This includes 3,32,764 booster shots and 16,65,792 vaccine doses in the 15-18 age group.
To date, 1.72 billion doses have been administered in the nationwide vaccination campaign.
