The SBI (State Bank of India) study on the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic said the ongoing wave could be extended for another three weeks. The report, released on Tuesday, said the optimism came from a sharp drop in the number of new cases in the 15 regions with the most infections. India added more than 282,000 new infections on Wednesday, bringing the number of active cases to 18,31,000, the highest in 232 days. SBI report says 10 points in India’s third wave of Covid-19

  1. Mumbai peaked on January 7 when 20,971 cases were reported, the report said.
  2. Pune and Bangalore are still seeing daily new additions. If other regions also take strict measures to control the spread, the national peak could come 2-3 weeks after the Mumbai peak. 3. New cases in the top 15 regions, including 10 major cities, fell from 67.9 in December 2021 to 37.4 in January 2022.
