Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has slammed the state’s previous government led by the Samajwadi party, saying the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government’s zero-tolerance policy has ensured criminals flee the state. He also mocked those who quit the party ahead of parliamentary elections, calling them “dissatisfied souls” whose demands could never be met.
In an exclusive interview with Shashi Shekhar, editor-in-chief of Hindi’s Hindi sister publication, Hindi, he said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has changed its view of the country.
Adityanath also dismissed criticism of his government and listed steps the current government is taking to improve the people.
“Before 2017, businessmen and people in some areas of Uttar Pradesh, such as Keirana, had to relocate elsewhere. But after 2017, criminals are leaving the country and not the people. That’s the basic difference,” he said. said in an interview.
“Today, with mafia properties being levelled by bulldozers, women in the state have a safer environment,” Adityanath added.
Asked about the allegations of selective targeting of criminals, the chief minister said: “For our government, criminals are criminals. We have never selectively targeted anyone based on caste or religion. We have never shied away from targeting corrupt elements. Take action. It was our government that liberated over 100 acres of land from Prayagraj’s mafia and established housing programs for the poor.”
Adityanath further said that the BJP government has changed the way the country views the country. “There was a perception that Uttar Pradesh had a mafia, that there was no development or security in the state, and that the state had no development plans to move forward, and we changed that perception.”
“Uttar Pradesh is now one of the leading states in the country when it comes to infrastructure development, women’s safety, farmer assistance, good governance and ensuring everyone’s interests,” he said.
As the conversation turned to providing jobs for young people in Uttar Pradesh, the chief minister said the state’s unemployment rate, which was 18% when the SP took power, has now fallen to 4.9%.
“We provided government jobs for half a million young people and 1.61 million young people received private work and employment assistance,” Adityanath said.
“UP is in a better position in terms of employment than Kerala, Maharashtra and West Bengal, although I agree there is still a lot of work to do,” he added.
