Darshan Kumaar is riding high after the worldwide success of The Kashmir Files, which grossed over $300 million. The actor, who has been in numerous films and online series, claims that the success of the film has resulted in a good shift in the possibilities he has received over the years. He will now appear in Aashram 3, a film starring Bobby Deol.
In Vivek Agnihotri’s film on the killings and exodus of Kashmiri Hindus in the valley in the 1990s, Darshan Kumaar played Krishna Pandit. Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, and Pallavi Joshi also appeared in the film.
“Earlier on, the same individuals who didn’t want to invest in my projects are now casting me as a star in films,” he told ETimes about how the film’s success has led to further opportunities. He added, “The directors were always keen on working with me, but the producers were not ready to commit. However, after the publication of The Kashmir Files, everything has changed.”
Darshaan will now appear in Aashram 3 as senior inspector Ujagar Singh. Bobby Deol, Aaditi Pohankar, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Anupria Goenka, Adhyayan Suman, and Tridha Choudhury star in the show, which is directed by Prakash Jha.
According to MXPlayer, the next season will focus on the “megalomaniac baba (Bobby Deol), who continues to bend every law to suit himself and has turned into a power-hungry enemy.”
Bajrang Dal protestors trashed the set of the show in Bhopal last year and threw ink on Prakash Jha. They alleged that the filmmaker misrepresented Hindus in the film.
Darshan rose to prominence after starring alongside Priyanka Chopra in the 2014 film Mary Kom. He has appeared in the films NH10, Sarbjit, and Baaghi 2 with Anushka Sharma. In online shows such as The Family Man and Avrodh the Siege Within, he had a key role. He has appeared in a few television shows, notably Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev, where he played Shukracharya.
