Even as a new week begins, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 continues to hold its ground. After an impressive weekend, the film passed the litmus test on Monday, with a double-digit collection of around 10.50 crore. The film is a standalone sequel to the 2007 hit starring Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan and stars Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani, and Tabu.
In its first four days of release, Bhool Bhulaiya 2 made around 66 crore. According to Boxofficeindia.com, the film earned between Rs. 10 and Rs. 10.50 crore on Monday. Kartik’s biggest weekend in his film career was the film’s 56 crore weekend gross.
At the box office, Kartik and Kiara’s horror comedy clashed with Kangana Ranaut’s action spy thriller Dhaakad. The latter flopped at the box office, grossing less than a crore in its first weekend. On the other hand, Kangana congratulated Kartik and Kiara on the success of their film on Instagram.
On their first day, Bhool Bhulaiya 2 and Dhaakad opened in approximately 3,200 and 2,200 screens, respectively, across the country. “There was a need and demand in the audience for Bhool Bhulaiya 2 but nothing for Dhaakad,” a trade source told PTI. However, for Dhaakad, about a quarter of the screens have been removed.” In many places, Dhaakad shows have been reduced or cancelled, according to the source.
“To do the kind of films that I need to do, it’s important to deliver with numbers and not just reviews,” Kartik told PTI ahead of the release of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. The main driving force is numbers. I’m making movies for the public, not for home viewing. It’s about community viewing, and everyone should have a good time.”
Priyadarshan directed the 2007 psychological horror comedy starring Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan, but Anees Bazmee directed the 2022 film in his own style.
