Karnataka’s Congress on Thursday decided to postpone the 10-day Mekedatu padayatra (walking march), a day after the state government was co-opted by the High Court to order an immediate ban on opposition protest marches, even as massive marches continue. The state has seen a surge in daily Covid-19 cases.
The decision was made after party leaders participating in the march, including Karnataka Congress president DK Shivakumar and former chief minister Siddaramaiah, held a meeting in Ramanagara to discuss the future agitation process.
Earlier, the fifth day of the convention began with Shivakumar, who spearheaded the protest, tweeting: “The fifth day of #Mekedatu Padyatra begins – pray and seek blessings to win this historic The fight. #NammaNeeruNammaHakku (our water, our rights).”
