DCGI allows Serum Institute to enrol 7-11 year kids in Covid-19 vaccine trial

A subject expert group of the Central Drug Standards Control Organization stated: “After detailed review, the committee recommends allowing the recruitment of subjects in the 7 to 11 year old age group under the agreement. As the country is preparing to protect children from coronavirus infection, children aged 7-11 are recruited to participate in COVID-19 vaccine trials. It has injected more than 870 million doses of vaccines into adults of nearly 1.4 billion people. A subject expert panel of the Central Pharmaceutical Standards Control Organization said: “After detailed deliberation, the committee recommended that subjects in the 7 to 11 year old age group be allowed to be recruited in accordance with the agreement.” The Serum Institute has tested its COVID-19 vaccine in the age range of 12-17 years, which is a domestic version of AstraZeneca’s vaccine, and provided safety data for the first 100 participants. So far, only drugmaker Zydus Cadila’s DNA COVID-19 vaccine has received emergency use approval in India and can be used in adults and children 12 years and older.
