Due to a long-term wrist injury, Austrian player Dominic Tim will withdraw from the upcoming ATP Cup and Sydney ATP 250 tournament on Sunday and will decide whether to participate in the Australian Open at the end of December.

The 28-year-old player has not played since he was injured at the Mallorca Open in June, failed to defend the U.S. Open this year, and also withdrew from the World Tennis Championships exhibition held in Abu Dhabi this week.

“After talking with my team, we decided to return to Austria instead of flying directly to Australia,” Tim wrote on Twitter.

“Unfortunately, I caught a cold during my stay in Dubai (and tested negative for COVID-19) and could not practice last week.” Therefore, my physical condition will not be able to participate in the ATP Cup and Sydney ATP 250. “I have not participated in the past six months. After the game, I cannot risk coming back prematurely and further injury.”

Ranked 15th in the world, he said his goal is to play in Melbourne Park in the first Grand Slam this year, adding that his wrists are “almost 100%.”

“In general, the time I spent in Dubai was great because I increased the intensity and level of practice… We will make the final decision on my participation before the end of December,” Tim said.

The ATP Cup will begin on January 1, and the Sydney ATP 250 Championship will begin next week.
