New Delhi/Kanpur, September 29 (PTI) The Ministry of Joint Road Transport and Highways will prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the Ganges Link Expressway in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, an official said on Wednesday.
Kanpur District Commissioner Raj Shekhar stated that the proposed elevated highway corridor will extend over 30 kilometers on National Highway 34, which passes through the city and connects its internal area to the Ganges Barrage stand up. “The Coordinator of the High-level Joint Development Committee Neeraj Srivastava met with Amit Kumar Ghosh, Additional Secretary of the Road Transport and Highway Union Department, and briefed him on the plan in Delhi,” he added.
The district commissioner said that because NH-34 passes through densely populated areas, it affects the flow of traffic in industrialized cities, adding that the project will be a “boon” to Kanpur. “Additional Secretary Amit Kumar Ghosh agreed to fund the project, but stated that they must be provided with all permits related to various departments at the state level,” he said. “Neeraj Srivastava asked Ghosh to prepare a DPR for the ministry.
He has agreed, but asked him to re-check the route of the project in such a way that the Ganges falls into the lowest part of the road corridor,” Shekhar said. He further stated that the project was conceptualized in 2018 and received state-level approval, but ultimately lost momentum. The effort now is to recover and complete it.
