Drew Barrymore has apologised for making fun of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s case on her show, The Drew Barrymore Show, while speaking with a guest. While chatting with a guest – actor Anthony Anderson, who has previously been accused of sexual assault – the actor drew criticism for laughing about how the former couple’s case was full of “insanity.”

Drew said on the show, “It’s like one layer of crazy, it’s a seven-layer deep of insanity,” according to Huffpost.com. During the show, Drew discussed several odd details of Johnny and Amber’s allegations against each other, saying, “It’s like one layer of crazy, it’s a seven-layer deep of insanity.” “I know that these are two people’s real lives,” she added, “and I know what it’s like to have your life put out in the open.” I understand all of the emotions, but they’re actually disclosing this information,” says the couple, laughing.

Drew later apologised for the incident in a video posted to Instagram. She described it as a “teachable moment” about how she should act in the future.

“It has come to my attention that I have offended people by making fun of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, and for that I just want to deeply apologise and thank everyone who spoke out because this can be a teachable moment for me and how I move forward and conduct myself,” she said in the video.

“I can be a more thoughtful and better person moving forward because all I want to do is be a good person,” she continued. “I greatly appreciate the depth of this and I will grow and change as a result of it.” And I believe that anyone could teach me and help me grow along the way.”

Johnny Depp has sued Amber Heard for defamation after she wrote a column for the Washington Post in which she referred to herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.”
