According to PTI, the Mumbai High Court stated on Thursday, October 14 that the 82-year-old poet activist Varavara Rao did not need to surrender before the Taloja prison authorities before October 28.
The court will hear his request to extend bail granted on October 26. Rao is the defendant in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist connection case.
On February 22, 2021, the Mumbai High Court granted Rao six months of temporary bail on medical grounds, and required him to surrender and return to judicial detention on September 5.
However, Rao’s lawyer R Sathyanarayanan and senior lawyer Anand Grover filed an application last month requesting an extension of the provisional bail period. In the application, Rao also asked to stay in his hometown of Hyderabad.
