A rare “fishing cat” that eats fish, one of the endangered species in India, has been caught on camera for the first time in Madhya Pradesh’s Panna Tiger Reserve. On Wednesday, a state government press release said that a fish-eating cat has been caught on a camera installed in the tiger reserve.
Indications of the presence of fishing cats were also found earlier around the Ken River, which flows for about 55 km from the middle of Panna Tiger Reserve, but the first evidence in the form of photos is yet to be found.
The specialty of a fishing cat is that it makes fish its food. In general, the species of fishing cat is becoming extinct. According to Schedule-1 of the Indian Wildlife Protection Act 1972, fishing cat hunting is prohibited.
