Exclusive | Modi Govt to Study Drug Pricing Policies of China, US, EU to Make Medicines Affordable in India

To make medicines accessible and affordable in India, the Narendra Modi government will launch a study of medicine pricing policies in at least 10 countries, including China, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and America. The Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP), under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers Union, has launched a tender to find a reputable company that can conduct research on behalf of the government.

The purpose of the study was to understand the pricing methods of medicines used in international markets covering at least 10 countries. It also aims to understand lessons learned or best practices in the availability and affordability of medicines in individual countries.
