Social media accounts with ties to Brazil’s military have been shut down by Facebook. The accounts posed as nonprofits to play down the dangers of deforestation, the social media giant said in a move that could lead to more government-backed eco-friendly projects being set up.
Meta’s quarterly report could be damaging to President Jair Bolsonaro. The president has deployed the armed forces to the Amazon on unsuccessful missions to reduce deforestation.
