In IPL 2022, nothing is going well for Virat Kohli. The Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman got off to a good start against Punjab Kings, hitting two crisp boundaries off Arshdeep Singh in the second over of the RCB chase. He then announced himself by hitting a six off left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar, becoming the first cricketer in the Indian Premier League to reach 6500 runs. Kohli was soon dismissed in an unusual manner off Kagiso Rabada’s bowling, so the joy was short-lived. However, it was the former RCB captain’s subsequent reaction that went viral on social media. Kohli was seen looking upwards and saying something along the lines of “what else do you want me to do?” before slowly walking back to the pavilion and scream again.

Rabada tucked Kohli up with a fast delivery that came back sharply, cramping the right-hander for space in the second ball of the third over. Kohli attempted a flick shot, but the ball brushed against his thigh pad and ballooned up into the air, landing in the fine leg fielder’s hands. The PBKS fielders raised their hands in protest, but the umpire simply shook his head.

Mayank Agarwal signalled for DRS almost immediately, and replays revealed a small spike as the ball passed Kohli’s gloves before hitting the top half of his front pad and landing in the fine-leg fielder’s hands.

Kohli was dismissed for 20 off 14 balls after the decision was reversed. Kohli’s heartbreaking reaction after being released was widely shared on social media.

Kohli has only scored 236 runs in 12 games, with an average of 19.

Meanwhile, RCB were defeated by the Punjab Kings by 54 runs at the Brabourne Stadium on Friday. PBKS batted first and were led by Jonny Bairstow’s 29-ball 66 and Liam Livingstone’s powerful innings (70 off 42). They scored a whopping 209 for 9.
