Indian celebrations are not just about celebrating and eating an assortment of dishes, we praise celebrations by offering petitions to our god on celebrations. Navratri 2021 is here and we Indians worship Goddess Durga for 9 days, and during these 9 days, many of us keep fasting. Some people only eat a certain type of food and some only eat fruits. There are certain rules that one needs to follow while fasting for maa Durga. Here are certain rules and regulations that you need to follow if you are fasting this Navratri:

  • One cannot eat regular wheat and rice instead you can use buckwheat flour or Singhare ka Atta and samvat chawal and sabudana. 
  • Those who do not consume anna during Navratri can eat all types of fruits, milk and water.
  • While cooking normal rock salt/table salt is not used, only sendha namak is used during Navratri for preparing any kind of food for 9 days. 
  • One must not eat onion and garlic in any of the dishes prepared. 
  • There are no restrictions with dairy, you can enjoy milk, Dahi, cottage cheese, khoya, etc. 
  • You must avoid packaged food as they contain many products that are consumed during Navratri.
  • You should also avoid legumes, lentils, wheat flour, rice flour, etc. 
  • Non-vegetarian food is asterisk NO during these 9 days of Navratri. 
  • You must also not consume alcohol, eggs,  smoke, and any other type of drugs. 

Fasting during Navratri is not only done to worship Goddess Durga but also to cleanse your body. These 9 days of fasting helps deep cleansing of your body and has many health benefits.
