The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s victory in Punjab Assembly polls does not mean that the party is a “threat to BJP” at the national level, said BJP leaders. For the AAP to emerge as an alternative to the saffron party, it should win “at least 100 Lok Sabha seats”, they said.
The Congress’ ability to retain its relevance as a binding force for the opposition is doubtful, and the anti-BJP space is opening up, says senior BJP leader P Muralidhar Rao. “To emerge as an alternative to the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it should win at least 100 seats in the Lok Sabha,” he says.
The party’s “strategies and its methods” are similar to that of the BJP in its pursuit to become a “party with a development agenda,” say sources close to the party.
