Paras Kalnawat, who was recently fired from the television programme Anupamaa for signing Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa on a competing channel, described the incident as “heartbreaking” because no one had talked to him about it. The actor also recalled how, during the Covid-19 pandemic last year, he was summoned to the sets barely four days after his father passed away.

On the television show Anupamaa, in which Rupali Ganguly plays the title role, Paras Kalnawat is well-known for the role of Samar Shah. Soon after it became public that he had signed on to host a dancing reality show on a competing channel, his contract was cancelled.

In an interview with ETimes, Paras discussed how he had contributed greatly to the show despite going through a personal crisis. He said, “That was the toughest moment of my life, when I lost my dad and I had to resume shooting in just four or five days because the majority of the Anupamaa cast members had contracted Covid-19. I was in a position where I could not even consider returning to work, however I was forced to do so when I received a call from the production. We want you back, they said, adding that even Rupali Ganguly tested positive for COVID-19.

Added he, “I had to take a call at that point, so I joined the show. To make the decision to leave my family and my mother in that condition was really difficult for me. My house was full of relatives, making it difficult for me to shoot, but since work is worship, I decided to carry on. After my father passed away after just four days, I re-started working.”

According to Paras, the development of his character had ceased, and even if he had declined the offers, his development on the show would not have occurred.
