The Geological Survey of India and the Uttar Pradesh Directorate of Geology and Mining have claimed to have found two gold mines in Sonbhadra (Uttar Pradesh) which may contain up to 3,350 tonnes of gold. This is 5 times the 626 tonnes of gold reserves in India. District Mining Officer K.K. Rai said, “The government is thinking of awarding the contract for mining.”
