The Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday appointed Amit Palekar as its candidate for chief minister in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Goa. AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal made the announcement at a press conference in Panaji, Goa. Kejriwal said the party will contest all 40 parliamentary seats in Goa.
Despite an ambitious campaign, the AAP failed to win a single seat in the 2017 election, pitching 39 candidates for the powerful 40-seat parliament.
Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Monday asserted that the race for Goa’s parliamentary election is a contest between Congress and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in the polling state. In his assessment, Chidambaram said the AAP and Trinamool Congress would only “undermine” the non-BJP vote, as Kejriwal “confirmed”.
“Those who want regime change (after 10 years of tyranny) will vote for Congress. Those who want regime to survive will vote for BJP,” Chidambaram said in a series of tweets. Goa will vote where they see hope, “Congress is the hope of the BJP, not the Goans”.
The Delhi Chief Minister recently held a door-to-door campaign in Goa’s Cortalim village. Kejriwal, last time a star campaigner for the AAP, was seen interacting with voters in Cortalim.
Goa will go to the polls on February 14, and vote counting will take place on March 10.
AAP has announced its candidates for chief minister in the Punjab and Uttarakhand assembly elections.
