In Chennai, 10 grams of 24-carat gold sold for Rs 49,390 on Tuesday, while 10 grams of 22-carat gold sold for Rs 45,270.
Gold prices vary across the country due to excise, state taxes and charges.
In Chennai, a kilogram of silver is priced at Rs 65,400, while in Delhi and Mumbai, the metal is being sold for Rs 61,300.
Silver was sold at Rs 61,300 per kilo in Kolkata, while in Hyderabad and Bangalore it was sold at Rs 65,400 per kilo.
