Nearly 90 kilogram of heroin worth ₹ 450 crore recovered from a shipping container that arrived at the Pipavav port in Amreli district from Iran. To dodge the authorities, the drug syndicate had applied a unique modus operandi in which threads were soaked in a solution containing heroin.
“Nearly five months ago, a container containing large bags of thread arrived at the Pipavav port from Iran. The threads in four suspicious bags weighing nearly 395 kg were found to contain an opiate derivative or heroin, according to forensic analysis. We discovered nearly 90 kg of heroin worth Rs. 450 crore in total from those threads “In Gandhinagar, Mr. Bhatia told reporters.
The DRI stated in a press release that these bags containing heroin-soaked threads were shipped alongside other bags containing normal thread bales to avoid detection by authorities.
“In this case, the method of operation would have required the extraction of heroin from the threads. The DRI is conducting an investigation and seizure under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985 “According to the press release
