Feeding into earlier cryptic and then fully realised hints regarding the completion of their fifth studio album, Halsey unexpectedly made another announcement that put time at a stop.
The “Closer” singer seemed to reveal the cover art for her upcoming first single off her upcoming fifth album on Monday, June 3. With less than a day to go before the audio was released, Halsey made an unheard-of move by beginning at “The End.” Her hilariously named song will be released at 9 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. ET tomorrow, June 4.
The eagerly awaited news was shared on her and Columbia Records’ social media accounts: The first track from my fifth album will be released tomorrow, June 4, at 9 a.m. PT/12 a.m. EST. I wanted to post this before the first single drops. I adore it and it means a lot to me. This time, let’s try something new and begin with “The End.”
Her most recent disclosure comes after a covert website named ForMyLastTrick surfaced last week. Despite the page’s apparent simplicity, its mysterious design features a single image that, once clicking, transforms into an array of old photographs. Every component seems to be a hint indicating the topics of Halsey’s upcoming album.
A ticket marked “The End” is visible, but it’s hidden in the very top left corner of the page. It opens a “June 71” letter when you click on it. Thus, the vocalist of “Bad at Love” makes another point clear.
First line: “First draft, January 7, 1971
Hi there, this is Halsey. It has been some time.”
They then affirm that they have really composed a new record. The “Graveyard” singer, though, said that she “needed sometime to figure out how to say what I needed to say.” You see, I need to let everything out because I’ve been holding in.
A section that has been black-highlighted obscures the entire content.
“There’s so much I am going to reveal on this record, but you need to know some of the story first,” she writes in the second half. I just need to explain to you, my friend, why it all matters this time, before the mayhem and confetti of big singles and album launches.
Then, confirming that she will release a new song on June 4 that is “just for us,” Halsey ends her message with the same closing line that it did today: “Let’s start at THE END.”
