Met Gala 2022: Some of the world’s biggest names arrived in New York today for the Met Gala red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the fashion industry’s biggest night. Hillary Clinton, the former Secretary of State of the United States, attended the event with her designer for the evening, Joseph Altuzarra. She also wore a piece by him that has gone viral on social media thanks to the hidden embroidery on the hems. Hillary’s design paid tribute to all the women who have influenced her throughout her life, including Dorothy Rodham.
Many celebrities walked the red carpet at the Met Gala on Monday, May 1st, with the theme ‘Gilded Glamour.’ Hillary Clinton also attended the gala, dressed in a Joseph Altuzarra floor-length gown that was inspired by the women of America’s past who had influenced her. Along the neckline and hem, Hillary embroidered the names of 60 women she admires, including Madeline Albright, Abigail Adams, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Lady Bird Johnson, and her mother, Dorothy Rodham.
Hillary revealed in an interview with Vogue that Altuzarra’s handwriting was used to write the names of famous women in American history. The maroon gown was then hand-embroidered with each name. It features a bateau neckline with a draped overlay, long sleeves, a figure-hugging silhouette with a flared skirt and a floor-grazing hem.
According to Vogue, the designer said, “I knew I wanted to include a personal touch in the dress for her. When someone like Hillary visits the Met, it isn’t just a case of ‘there’s Hillary at the Met, and she’s wearing a dress.’ It holds a lot of weight. I felt compelled to consider the dress’s significance in relation to the theme and the occasion.”
Meanwhile, the former US First Lady wore the maroon gown with short tresses tied in a side-parted half-updo, matching heels, ruby and diamond embellished earrings, rings, minimal make-up, and a wine-hued lip shade.
