According to BBC news, Cadmus Delmore, head of the Cause First Nation, said these things in a press briefing.
Bobby Cameron, chief of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous First Nations, said he feared more graves would be found on residential school grounds across Canada.
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission had given a detailed report on the abuse of children at the institute five years ago. It was told that at least 3200 children died due to abuse and negligence.
Camloops School operated from 1890 to 1969. After this the federal government took over its operation from the Catholic Church.
This school was closed in 1978. Between 1915 and 1963, there were at least 51 deaths at Camelopes School. British Columbia Premier John Horgan said he was shocked and saddened to learn of the incident.
The Canadian government formally apologized for this inhuman treatment in 2008.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted, “My heart breaks for the Cowessess First Nation following the discovery of Indigenous children buried at the former Marieval Residential School. We cannot bring them back, but we will honor their memory and we will tell the truth about these injustices,”
At the same time, the Roman Catholic Church (which ran most of the schools) has not yet apologized. Earlier this month, Pope Francis said in a statement that he was pained by the discovery of the tombs, with the survivors of the victims rejected the Pope’s statement.
