I’m glad my sons have unique identities Mahadevan, Shankar

The musical group Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy includes Shankar Mahadevan. He does, however, have a separate identity as a playback and classical vocalist from the ensemble. And Shankar is happy that his sons, the vocalists Siddharth Mahadevan and Shivam Mahadevan, have succeeded in establishing themselves in the music industry. “For a parent, seeing his children fly on their own and not depend on him is the greatest blessing. It gives me satisfaction to watch my sons forge their own identities,” the Padma Shri laureate says.

Shivam has also provided playback for a number of movies and web projects, including Delhi Safari (2012) and Bandish Bandits, among others. Siddharth (29), a composer-singer, is best known for songs like Zinda (Bhaag Milkha Bhaag; 2013), Nachde Ne Saare (Baar Baar Dekho; 2015), and Nok Jhok (Chhapaak; 2020). He frequently appears jamming with his father on Instagram.

The finest times for Shankar, 55, are when he makes music with his sons. “It feels fantastic when I perform on stage with both of my kids playing instruments like band members. I struggle to put into words how satisfying that feels. We jam, research, write, record, converse, and debate. So, we have a fantastic musical team, the musician says.
