In response to boycott demands against Aamir Khan’s most recent film, Laal Singh Chaddha, Ekta Kapoor even referred to him as a “soft ambassador.” Laal Singh Chaddha, which was directed by Advait Chandan, is the Hindi version of the 1994 Hollywood film Forrest Gump.

Laal Singh Chaddha has had a miserable run at the box office and, thanks to the holiday release, was unable to even surpass 50 crore in its opening weekend, which lasted for five days. The holidays of Raksha Bandhan and Independence Day, combined with the weekend, could have benefited the movie’s August 11 release. It only made 46 crore during the first weekend, though.

Ekta spoke to Navbharat Times about the calls for a boycott and said, “It is incredibly strange that we are avoiding the very people who have provided the best services in the sector. Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and especially Aamir Khan are all legends in the industry. They cannot be boycotted. It is impossible to boycott Aamir Khan because he is a soft ambassador.”

Before the movie’s release, Laal Singh Chaddha was the target of numerous boycott requests on social media. A Delhi-based attorney even reported Aamir Khan, the producers of Paramount Pictures, and several other people to the police for allegedly “disrespecting the Indian Army and hurting Hindu Sentiments” in Laal Singh Chaddha. Kareena Kapoor, Mona Singh, and Naga Chaitanya all play significant roles in the movie.

At a press conference before the movie’s release, Aamir had responded to the boycott calls by saying that he regretted if he had hurt anyone “by any means” and that he would respect their feelings if they chose not to see the movie. But he added that a lot of people had put a lot of effort into making the movie, so he would really appreciate it if people saw it and enjoyed it.
