Esther Zhao was told to send her daughter to a quarantine centre for children, but did not want her to live with the potentially deadly disease.

Photos and videos posted on Chinese social media show babies being kept to a cot. In one video, a groaning toddler crawls out of a room with four child-sized beds pushed together. Adults can be seen in the videos, but are outnumbered by the number of children.

They were taken at the Jinshan facility, a source familiar with the facility has told Reuters. The centre has refused to answer calls made by Reuters for comment.
