Four days after becoming the third-highest wicket in the Indian cricket test, Ravichandran Ashwin is now waiting for not one but three important milestones in the second test against New Zealand, which will be held in Mumbai on December 3rd. Wankhede started the stadium.
Ashwin chose 6 wickets in the Kanpur test, which allowed him to reach 44 wickets in 14 games in 2021. In the first game against Australia in Sydney in January of this year, he did not make a wicket in a game in this calendar year only once. Statistics put him tied with Pakistani walker Shahin Shah Afridi, who has chosen as many wickets as the veteran spinner in eight tests.
If Ashwin chooses six more wickets in the second test, it will be the fourth time he has achieved this feat in a calendar year. This is the largest number of Indians. Prior to this, he chose 62 wickets in 2015. Small doors, 72 small doors were selected in 2016, and 56 small doors in 2016. Currently, he is tied with Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble, with three each. Ashwin is still 8 wickets short, and joins Kumble in an elusive 300 wicket club. Eight other goalkeepers helped Ashwin reach a total of 300 goalkeepers in the home test. Only the legendary leg spinner has more wickets in India-350.
The same number will also help Ashwin surpass New Zealand’s great Richard Hadley to become the most wicket in the competition. Earlier, Ashwin surpassed Bishan Singh Bedi with his six wickets in Kanpur and became the highest scoring wicket in the Indian game. Now Ashwin has eight wickets from the top. Hadley selected 65 wickets in 14 tests against India.
Ashwin did not have the most wickets in a single venue in the test. He now has 30 wickets at MA Chidambaram Stadium and Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. In four tests on the field, Ashwin chose three five-pointers and he had ten wickets.
