India captain Rohit Sharma’s record in the T20Is is so high that he breaks some world records every time he comes to bat. In the first T20I, he briefly overtook Virat Kohli to become the format’s second-highest ever scorer before the latter regained the mantle in the same game.
Rohit struck three sixes on the way from 19 to 40 in the first T20I as India won by six wickets. If he hits another three in Friday’s second T20I match, Rohit will outscore Australia captains Aaron Finch and Afghan Hazratullah Zazai for most sixes against a single team.
Finch hit 34 sixes against England, while Zazai hit just as many against Ireland. Rohit is currently 32 for the West Indies game.
Meanwhile, Rohit holds another record held by Finch. The 34-year-old is 36 times away from being the second-highest scorer on a single team in the T20Is. Finch made 594 appearances against England, while Rohit made 559.
Rohit helped India fly the first T20I and they chased 158 targets. However, West Indies managed to pull things back after his dismissal, dragging the game into the 19th inning.
It was Suryakumar Yadav and Venkatesh Iyer who put India back in the driver’s seat after Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant all failed to shoot. The pair set a 26-ball, 48-run unbeaten streak for the fifth wicket and Venkatesh completed the chase with six.
India are now looking to seal the series victory by beating West Indies in the second of three T20Is contested between the two teams. Previously, India had beaten West Indies 3-0 in their previous three ODI series.
