According to NITI Aayog’s National Regional Desirability Program Ranking, Bihar’s Khagaria region topped the list in terms of overall performance last November.
NITI Aayog chief executive Amitabh Kant conveyed the news to Bihar chief secretary Amit Subhani on Wednesday. In a letter to Subhani, NITI Aayog said the top ranking now entitles the Khagaria region to an additional grant of Rs 100 crore.
This is a major development for Khagaria as it is one of the most backward areas in the state and is hit by huge floods every year.
Khagaria magistrate Alok Ranjan Ghosh said its top listing reflects the improvements it has shown in many key parameters. “It tops both overall and fitness metrics. There are five parameters, of which Khagaria has the biggest improvement compared to the previous two positions. Of the remaining three, third or fourth. Still a long way to go Go, we want our team to keep the same rhythm. For serious diseases, people still go to Bhagalpur, Begusarai or Patna. We hope that one day Khagaria will be able to meet the needs of the people in the region,” the DM said.
