In Delhi and Maharashtra, cases have been on the rise, raising fears of a new resurgence. On Saturday, Maharashtra saw 253 new Covid-19 cases, up from 205 the day before, while Delhi saw 1,407 cases, down from 1,656 the day before.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization has released a report on excess deaths that went unreported around the world, highlighting India as a major contributor. According to the WHO, 4.7 million people died as a result of the pandemic, compared to 4,80,000 according to the Indian government. Meanwhile, the government has pushed back against the report’s claims, stating its opposition to the use of a “mathematical model” to project excess mortality estimates due to the lack of authentic data. It questioned the validity and robustness of the models used, as well as the data collection methodology.
