India recorded 1,72,433 infections in the past 24 hours, with the country’s daily Covid-19 count rising slightly on Thursday, according to data released by the Union Health Ministry. This is 6.84% higher than the 161,386 infections recorded in the country on Wednesday. The country also recorded 1,008 deaths in the past 24 hours, according to the health ministry announcement.
The total death toll now stands at 498,983, with the national total jumping to 41,803,318, according to the Ministry of Health. The sharp rise in the daily death toll is due to an increase in the backlog of deaths in Kerala.
The southern state reported 500 deaths on Wednesday, according to a state release. 29 deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, 136 were deaths that occurred in recent days but were not recorded due to late receipt of documents, and 335 were designated Covid-19 after receiving an appeal under the new guidelines. 19 dead PTI cited official releases, the center and the Supreme Court’s instructions.
The number of active cases was 15,33,921, or 3.67% of the total number of cases. The data also showed a daily positivity rate of 10.99%.
As many as 2,59,107 people recovered from the viral illness, bringing the total number of recoveries to 3,97,70,414. The ministry also said the current recovery rate is 95.14 per cent. The weekly positive rate was 12.98%.
In the nationwide vaccination campaign against Covid-19, the country has so far accumulated more than 1.6787 million doses.
