India reported 247,000 coronavirus cases today, the highest single-day increase in the current wave. The country’s current total of 36.3 million includes 5,488 cases of the Omicron variant reported in 28 states and federal territories.
Active cases account for 3.08% of total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has dropped to 95.59%. Active COVID-19 cases rose by 84,825 in a 24-hour period, according to figures updated this morning by the Ministry of Health.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 13.11 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 10.80 per cent. The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive has exceeded 154.61 crore, the ministry said.
As many as 380 people have died from Covid in the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health. This includes 199 deaths in Kerala over the past few months, which was added on the basis of pending appeals following the Supreme Court’s last guidelines.
Maharashtra, one of the states worst affected by the Covid pandemic, recorded 46,723 new COVID-19 cases, up more than 27% from a day earlier, and the total number of cases crossed the 7 million mark . The new cases include 86 infections with the highly contagious strain of Omicron, bringing the state’s cumulative case count to 1,367, according to the state health department.
