India registered a seventh hike in fuel prices in eight days

Petrol prices were hiked by 80 paise per litre on Tuesday taking total hike to ₹4.80. The government continues to underline that the Ukraine war is one of the factors behind the spike in fuel prices.

In Delhi, the cost of a litre of petrol rose to ₹100.21 per litre and diesel to  ₹ 91.47 per gallon respectively.

In Chennai, one litre of petrol will now cost ₹105.94 per litre and diesel will cost  ₹96.96 in Kolkata. The fuel prices were hiked by 30 paise on Monday too. Prices had been stable for over four and a half months.

The Indian Congress has accused the government of ‘tax-gouging’ and ‘profiteering’ over the fuel price surge. The BJP-led government has been accused of increasing excise duty on petrol and diesel by 5.5% and 1.8% respectively.
