India reports 1,27,952 new Covid cases; positivity rate down to 7.9%

Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in India continued to decline on Saturday as the country recorded 1,27,952 infections in the past 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry. The positivity rate dropped to 7.98%, indicating that the new wave led by the highly transmissible Omicron variant is fading in the country.

The current active caseload is 13,31,648. Ministry of Health data further showed that it accounted for 3.16% of total cases. Active Covid-19 cases fell by 1,03,921 in 24 hours.

The death toll rose by 1,059 to 501,114.

The recovery rate increased to 95.64% as a large number of people continued to recover. According to the Daily Health Bulletin, 2,30,814 people have recovered in the past 24 hours. The total recovery rate has now jumped to 4,02,47,902.

Ministry of Health data also showed a weekly positivity rate of 11.21 per cent. The ministry added that so far, the country has tested 7.379 billion samples, with 16,03,856 completed in the past 24 hours.

Driven by the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive, the country has so far surpassed 1.6898 billion cumulative doses.
