India on Wednesday logged 31,923 new Covid-19 infections out of which Kerala reported 19,675. There are about 3.01 lakh active cases in the country and Kerala has over 1.61 lakh active infections. Also, as many as 282 deaths in the last 24 hours took the total number of fatalities in the country to 4.46 lakh.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management (NDMA) has recommended an ex-gratia amount of Rs 50,000 for loss of life due to Covid-19 — an amount that will be provided by states from the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) and distributed by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) or the district administrations.
On Wednesday, a day after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar raised the issue of non-recognition of Covishield with newly appointed British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, the UK updated its travel guidance, clarifying that the formulations of Covishield qualify it as an “approved” vaccine but not the Covid-19 certificates issued by India.
