India recorded 67,597 new cases of coronavirus in a single day, bringing the total to 4,23,39,611, while active cases fell below 1 million in about 27 days, India’s Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday.
The death toll had climbed to 5,04,062, with 1,188 new deaths, figures updated by the health ministry at 8am showed.
Active Covid cases have fallen to 9,94,891, or 2.35% of total infections. The Ministry of Health said the national recovery rate increased to 96.46%.
According to the data, the number of active COVID-19 cases fell by 1,14,047 in a 24-hour period.
It said the daily positivity rate was 5.02%, while the weekly positivity rate was 8.30%.
Data showed that the number of people recovering from Covid-19 surged to 4,08,40,658, while the case fatality rate was 1.19%.
It said the country’s cumulative doses have so far exceeded 1.7021 crore, driven by the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive.
The total number of COVID-19 in India crossed the 2 million mark on August 7, 2020, 3 million on August 23, 4 million on September 5, and 5 million on September 16. It crossed 6 million on September 28, 7 million on October 11, 8 million on October 29, 9 million on November 20, and 10 million on December 19. The country crossed the grim milestone of 20 million Covid cases on May 4, 2021, and 30 million cases on June 23 last year.
