India sends relief and med supplies to war-hit Ukraine

India is delivering humanitarian aid and medical supplies to war-torn Ukraine after Russia launched a full-scale invasion last week. A team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is delivering 100 tents and 2,500 blankets to the Indian Air Force’s Hinton Air Base, officials said. From there we flew to Ukraine’s neighbor Romania. The flight is scheduled to depart at 10:15 am.

More relief flights are scheduled to fly from Delhi to Poland at 11am and 1pm today. The cargo was loaded last night.

Ukraine is facing a major humanitarian crisis following the full-scale invasion of the country by Russian forces on February 24. On Tuesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said 300 civilians had been killed so far, including at least 14 children.

With Ukrainian airspace closed due to the Russian invasion, the Indian government has been bringing Indian citizens to the Romanian border. From there, the evacuated Indians were then taken to the capital, Bucharest, a nine-hour drive from the border. The evacuated Indians then boarded an Air India flight and flew to India.
