Indian government officials said that on Saturday, India successfully tested the Agni Prime missile off the coast of Odisha State in Balasol.
The Agni-P is a new generation of advanced variants of the Agni-class missile. It is a canned missile with a range of 1,000 to 2,000 kilometers.
This is the second test of the Agni Prime missile. The test took place near APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Balasol at 11 am.
An ANI report stated that in this test, the nuclear-capable strategic missile Agni Prime has added many new features. An official said: “The missile test reached all its mission objectives with high accuracy.” The first test was successfully carried out at the same location on June 28.
Secretary of Defense Rajnat Singh congratulated the Defense and Research Development Organization (DRDO) on the successful flight test and expressed satisfaction with the performance of the system. “DRDO conducted the test at 11:06 a.m. The telemetry, radar, photovoltaic power station, and off-haul ships located on the east coast track and monitor the trajectory and parameters of the missile. The missile follows the trajectory of the textbook and achieves all mission objectives with high precision,” DRDO said in a statement.
This ballistic missile is 50% lighter than Agni 3, can be launched from railways and highways, has a longer storage time, and can be transported nationwide according to operational needs.
On December 7, the country successfully tested an aerial version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, which the Ministry of Defense called a “major milestone” in the development of BrahMos.
The ministry has stated that the Sukhoi 30 MKI supersonic fighter jet of the Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully tested the missile at the Integrated Proving Ground (ITR) in Chandipur off the coast of Orissa.
At about the same time, the vertically-launched short-range surface-to-air missile (VL-SRSAM) was successfully tested at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur.
According to officials from the National Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), the air defense system can engage targets up to 15 kilometers away. The organization stated that the VL-SRSAM, designed and developed by DRDO for the Indian Navy, aims to eliminate various air threats at close range, including sea skimming targets.
