The big auction ahead of the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) will take place from February 12 to 13. On Tuesday, the IPL had confirmed that 590 players would take part in the auction during the mega-auction, and further designated a 10-man marquee roster to compete in the opening ceremony. This year’s big auctions have added significance thanks to the addition of two new franchises to the tournament; Lucknow (Super Giants) and Ahmedabad.
The squad features four Indian players – Ravichandran Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan and Mohammed Shami; former India opener Aakash Chopra believes Iyer may be the most expensive. Delhi Capitals release intermediate batsmen ahead of big auction.
Ayer has been with the Capitals since 2015 and led the team for three seasons (2018, 2019 and 2020). He was forced to miss the first stage of 2021 due to a shoulder injury and captained Rishabh Pant in the second stage in the United Arab Emirates.
“Shreyas Iyer could be a potential captain for KKR or RCB. I don’t think the Punjab will watch him,” Chopra said on his official YouTube channel.
Later in the video, Chopra further stated that Isan Kishan’s absence could make Ayre the “most expensive player” on the roster.
“Honestly, the most expensive player will be Shreyas Iyer. In this list, the most expensive will be Iyer because Ishan Kishan is not there. If Ishan is there, a tug-of-war could happen. Now, they will be Ishan Set aside funds and spend money for Iyer,” siad Chopra said.
“The three most expensive overseas players will be Labada, and then one of Quinton De Cock or David Warner will also be the most expensive overseas player. Very likely.”
