Israel announced on Sunday that it would include the United Kingdom, Denmark and Belgium on the list of “red” countries that Israelis are banned from visiting, citing concerns about the spread of the Omicron variant.
A senior Israeli health official said at a press conference that travel restrictions in these three countries will take effect on Wednesday.
Israel has banned foreigners from entering the country in an attempt to stop the COVID-19 infection rate, and imposed a 3–7-day self-quarantine order on Israelis returning from abroad. At the press conference, Sharon Alroy-Preis, the head of public health at the Israeli Ministry of Health, stated that the United Kingdom, Denmark, and Belgium were included in the restricted list because of the “large spread of Omicron variants” there.
Since the discovery of this highly contagious variant, Israel has declared approximately 50 countries (mainly in Africa) as “red” countries.
Israeli health officials said that Israel has confirmed 55 cases of Omicron infection, and the company has been working hard to speed up its vaccination plan while weighing stricter enforcement of mask regulations.
