Jharkhand to start free COVID-19 vaccination for 18-44 age group from May 14

On Monday, Chief Minister Hemant Soren has made a big announcement on the vaccinations of 18 to 44 years of age in the state. Vaccination will begin on 14 May, it has been announced. All preparations for corona vaccination have been completed. The state has so far received 2.44 lakh doses of vaccine for vaccination of people in this age group. These include 1.34 lakh Covaxin and 1.10 lakh Covshield dosages.

Initially, corona vaccination will begin in those six districts of the state where there is more corona infection. These include Ranchi, East Singhbhum, Dhanbad, Hazaribagh, Dumka, Bokaro. Corona vaccination of people in this age group was scheduled to begin May 1, but had to be postponed due to the companies’ inability to provide the vaccine.

The vaccine for this age group has to be purchased by the state government from the companies themselves. The state government has ordered 25-25 lakh dose vaccines for Serum Institute and Bharat Biotech for this. The state government has approved Rs 250 crore from the State Contingency Fund for vaccination of people in this age group.
