Boris Johnson and Narendra Modi will discuss ways to boost trade and security ties with the South Asian country. India buys more than half of its military hardware from Russia. The West is trying to lure India away from Russia as part of a drive to strengthen ties.

The visit follows an attempt by the U.S. to move India away from Russia, with its own offer of more defence and energy sales.

India has been reluctant to distance itself from Moscow following the Ukraine crisis. India abstained from a U.N. vote condemning the invasion of Crimea and has not imposed sanctions on Russia.
