Congress spokesperson Khushbu Sundar resigned from the party on Monday amid reports that she is likely to join the BJP.
In her resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi, Sundar wrote that people like her who want to work for the party are being “suppressed” by “few elements seated at higher levels within the party.” “People who have no connectivity with the ground reality or public recognition are dictating terms,” she wrote. After a long and thorough “thought process” over a period of time, the actor said she decided to end her association with the Congress party.
Sundar, who has been with the Congress for close to six years, is in Delhi today and may meet the BJP’s central team. The developments come ahead of Tamil Nadu Assembly elections that are slated to be held next year. According to local reports, Kushbhu was upset that she was not given a ticket in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and BJP has promised her to provide a seat in the 2021 assembly elections.
The party, meanwhile, announced that Sundar was removed from her post of All India Congress Committee spokesperson with “immediate effect.” Speaking to the reporters, Tamil Nadu Congress leader KS Alagiri said Kushbhu’s departure will not leave a void in the party.
