Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli has revealed that he has been “touched a few times” in the past by a handful of IPL franchises to place himself in the auction house, but he would prefer to stay with Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The former India captain, who stepped down as RCB captain at the end of last season after eight years in charge, is the only cricketer to play for a team since the league’s inception in 2008.
“I’ve also been approached a few times – to be in an auction in some way – and I’ve thought about it,” Coley told the RCB podcast.
“At the end of the day, a person lives for a few years and then you die and life moves on. There are a lot of great players who have won trophies and stuff like that, but nobody likes you saying that.
“If you’re a good person, people will like you, and if you’re a bad person, they’ll stay away from you. Ultimately, that’s what life is about.”
Kohli, 33, has scored numerous winners for RCB, who have been boasting a star-studded squad but still can’t win the IPL.
“Loyalty to RCB, like how I follow my life, far more than five people say you finally won the IPL with XYZ. You feel good for five minutes, then the sixth minute you might be miserable with other issues Life.
“The team that gave me the first three years, believe me, was the most special. There were a lot of teams that had a chance. They didn’t support me and they didn’t believe in me.”
Referring to his time as team captain, Kohli said it was still outrageous to lose the IPL final in 2016.
Chasing 209, RCB ran to 114 with no losses at the halfway point, then lost their way and trailed by eight points to end their incredible season in sad fashion.
“That game, I think it was written. How could the Finals be in Bengaluru, we played a season like that, we played a game like this, we were nine games without conceding 100 points.
