Ladakh administration organised the first ‘Siachen ice climbing festival’ at the Nubra valley in Leh. The festival is organised to promote the Siachen valley as an adventure spot and boost tourism. It will also give people a window to appreciate the tough work done by army jawans and engineers in the extreme weather and inhospitable terrains.
The base camp of Siachen glacier, one of the world’s highest battlefields, is to be turned into a popular tourist attraction in Indian-administered Kashmir, officials have said. The base camp is due to be officially opened for tourists in September 2021, they added.
